German 4th-tier club FC Magdeburg have been going through a difficult time on the pitch in recent weeks, having not found the net in 5 games (and not having won a competitive game since November). Their fans decided to make their own fluorescent banners as a literal guide to the goal (freely moving around the near-empty stands to aid their cause), and while Christopher Wright’s strike helped the team to break their duck, Magdeburg went on to lose the match late on…

FC Barcelona’s Argentine back-to-back FIFA Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi has added another achievement to his quickly-amassed collection, as last week he broke the club’s all-time goalscoring record with numbers 232-234 against Granada (and has since been increased to 236), breaking a milestone (for ‘fully competitive’ games) previously held by Cesar Rodriguez (232 goals between 1942-1955, following a recount made by local media this month).

Sir Dave Richards, the chairman of the Premier League in England, managed to embarrass himself and his country (in particular The FA) two weeks ago with a slightly drunken tirade about how non-English people ‘stole’ the beautiful game from the city of Sheffield (England), and that 2022 FIFA World Cup hosts Qatar (who were also hosting the conference he was attending) should ‘get their heads out of the sand’ over the tricky national issue of alcohol sales at the tournament.

While The FA and the Premier League were quick to separate Richards’ views from their own (the latter claiming they do not want the incident to harm the league’s ‘brand’), the man himself was more concerned at drying out his clothes, as it appears that ‘one too many’ caused him to stumble into the hotel fountain en-route to a dinner. While later formal apologies were added from Richards himself, the comedy alone will surely be enough to warrant full forgiveness…

While the name of the club visitors involved may not have been Tottenham Hotspur, it seems as though Lech Poznan’s fans (judging by the supporters flags) have taken to another indoor youth game for letting of some steam (and some flares, and toilet paper). While these Under-8′s don’t seem to be fazed by their red-tinted surroundings, surely playing in this sort of environment can only be seen as a unique alternative experience?
