Carlton Cole and Peter Crouch. The other goals were a brace by Wayne Rooney either side of a Frank Lampard strike. The match also saw England launch their new ‘retro-style’ kit, David Beckham’s record-breaking 109th cap (record for outfield players), and Lampard’s goal was the 500th by the Three Lions at Wembley, old & new. Capello’s options for the crucial World Cup Qualifier against Ukraine on Wednesday at Rooney, Bent, and a doubtful Crouch.
In World Cup Qualifiers, Scotland were humbled in Amsterdam, beaten 3-0 by a solid Holland side thanks to goals from Huntelaar, van Persie, and a Dirk Kuyt penalty. The penalty was given minutes after the Scots had a Gary Caldwell header controversially ruled out.
Meanwhile, a dreadful error from Artur Boruc helped see Poland lose to Northern Ireland 3-2, Wales were defeated 2-0 by Finland, Ireland were held 1-1 by Bulgaria, and world champions Italy saw off a tough game from Montenegro with a 2-0 win. France scraped a 1-0 win over Lithuania in Kaunas.
