ARSENAL U18 v LIVERPOOL U18
The FA Youth Cup Final, first is ton
ight, and the two sides involved have a proud heritage of developing young talent, so this game will be intrueging to see who will be the stars of the future for these great clubs. The first leg is being played at the Emirates Stadium, which will give the players further big-game style atmosphere and experience. The second leg is at Anfield on Tuesday.
This will be a great chance for silverware in the Arsenal and Liverpool names respectivley, as both senior sides, particuarly the Gunners may have failed to scoop any trophies for several years, including this current season.
Liverpool U18 are bidding to get their hands on the trophy for the third time in the last four years and beat Steve Bould’s side in last season’s FA Youth Cup 4th round at Anfield.
The young Gunners crushed holders Manchester City 6-2 on aggregate in the semi-finals after also seeing off Aston Villa, Wolves, Sunderland and neighbours Tottenham. They are currently unbeaten in 21 games and the Premier Academy League champions.
Liverpool only finished fourth in the Under-18 Academy group three table but defeated Leeds United, Bristol Rovers, Chelsea and Bolton Wanderers before a comfortable 6-1 aggregate success against Birmingham City in the last four.
Finnish striker Lauri Dalla Valle, the side’s top scorer, bagged four goals versus Birmingham but Hughie McAuley’s charges have not been too effective on their travels this term, winning only five of 17 in all competitions.
With previous players that have won the trophy including David Beckham (and the rest of his famous group), Michael Owen, Jamie Carragher, Theo Walcott, and Joe Cole, among others, and plenty more to have graced the final, the compotition is certainly a spring board for the young starlets of each side.
