The Republic of Ireland have announced a glamour friendly with Brazil, set to be played in the 2nd of March. The match will be held at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium, with a neutral-based friendly against one of the world’s top teams perhaps a small consolation for cruelly missing out on the big prize of a trip to South Africa in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. Brazil seem to have made an annual fixture out of the Emirates Stadium, beginning with a game against Argentina in 2006, and facing Portugal, Sweden, and Italy in the following years. The last time Ireland and Brazil met was 2008 in Dublin, with the South Americans winning 1-0.
The Irish will also enjoy another glamour friendly later in the year, as Argentina come to the new Aviva Stadium (Lansdowne Road), to play Ireland’s first home game there in August.
