Sol Campbell has sensationally quit Notts County after playing just one game for the club. The move comes after he walked out of the club on Tuesday. The following day, he terminated his contract by mutual consent, citing that this move turned out to be not right for him.
The only game he played was a 2-1 defeat away to Morcambe, and that appeared to be enough to put the England international off the idea of League Two football only a month after signing a 5-year contract. There was a huge shock around the footballing world, with County’s director of football Sven-Goran Eriksson, the main reason Campbell moved, saying that he was ‘dissapionted’ with his former Three Lions starlet.
The most bizzare element of his departure, though, was that he trained with his team-mates on the Tuesday, then posing for the official team photo, before saying his good-byes and leaving. Maybe they will offer a refund on those team photos…?
It may not have been in his best interests to be at Meadow Lane, but it seems odd to not give them a real chance to show their potential, and to leave a contract worth around £40,000 a week when he is not allowed to sign for anyone else until January, according to the Football League. Seems like a pretty unwise decision…
