Rumours claiming that Sven-Goran Eriksson will leave his post as director of football at Notts County have intensified, as the man he chose as manager has quit following financial and ownership turbulation.
Hans Backe, hired by County mainly on Sven’s advice (Backe was assistant manager during his spells at Manchester City and Mexico), resigned following disputes over a lack of funds for transfers from the previous (and mysterious) owners of the club, Munto Finance (who have since sold the club). He lasted just 7 weeks (and 9 matches) in the role.
Peter Trembling, the new owner, and chairman before Munto came in the summer, said that he was ‘annoyed and frustrated’ over Backe’s departure, but insists that former England manager Sven will stay. Backe’s former assistant Dave Kevan has been appointed as the temporary manager.
