The biggest story of the weekend was Manchester City’s sacking of manager Mark Hughes. The move came despite a 4-3 win over Sunderland, although there were reports before-hand that the Welshman, nicknamed ‘Sparky’ would be given the boot regardless of the result. Several squad members are unhappy at the circumstances and manner of the sacking, and have even gone as far as saying that they want out in the transfer window.
Hughes’ immediate replacement is the Italian Roberto Mancini, who is roughly the same age, and has also experienced being forced out of a job in persiut of a higher-profile name (the club was Inter Milan, and his replacement was Jose Mourinho at the end of the 07-08 Serie A season, which Inter won). He had declared interest in the postion at Notts County, but instead held out for a job at a bigger club, which he has now got.
Manchester City currently lie 6th in the Premier League table on 29 points.
