Robbie Keane has completed a loan move to Celtic on transfer deadline day. He will join the SPL giants from Tottenham until the end of the season.
The former Wolves, Coventry, Inter Milan, Leeds, and Liverpool striker signed last night in front of thousands of fans outside Celtic Park. Many Irishmen have a great deal of affection for the Glasgow side, and Keane will be looking to make a big impression there. Keane will be a direct replacement for the departed Scott McDonald, the Australian linking up with former boss Gordan Strachan at Middlesbrough for £3.5M.
The biggest fee of the day was, naturally, paid by Manchester City, £7M for Middlesbrough’s Adam Johnson. Other notable moves included West Ham bringing in three new strikers (Benni McCarthy, Mido, and Ilan), Manchester City’s Benjani going on loan to Sunderland, and Portsmouth gaining some much-needed cash with the £3M sale of Canadian goalkeeper Asmir Begovic to Stoke.
